Published continuously since 1918, the 'Blue Guides' were an influential and incredibly popular guidebook series, that focused on history, art, architecture, and archaeology of the chosen area, with additional information and practical advice in regard to travel information, restaurants and hotels. This work was edited by Findlay Muirhead and Marcel Monmarche. Collated, complete with numerous black and white maps and plans, six of which are coloured, twelve of which are coloured and folding, and one black and white folding plate. This copy is also complete with twelve coloured folding maps to the appendix of the work, with the thirteenth map removed (with evidence to gutter) and tipped in to the front pastedown. In the publisher's original blue cloth binding, with attractive mapped front endpapers. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, slightly bumped to extremities and head and tail of spine. Slight rubbing to joints and fading to spine. Internally generally firmly bound. Final folding map previously bound to rear of text now removed, tipped to front pastedown. Pages bright and clean throughout, with the light scattered spot to fore edge of the occasional plate. Several small closed tears to folding plate tipped to front pastedown, with tape repair to verso (visible to recto). Loss to fore edge of page 431/2, not affecting text. Very Good . Ill.: Unnamed.
